TOEFL Exam and Test Prep by Peter Leake

TOEFL Exam and Test Prep by Peter Leake

Looking to get into a college or university where English is the main language?  Worried that your English skills are not sufficient to study abroad?  Well, here’s the good news…DON’T WORRY ANYMORE!!!  Students looking for a TOEFL tutor: you have come to the right place!

I grew up in Japan and honestly don’t remember which I learned first, English or Japanese.  Becoming proficient in a language that is not your own can seem like an insurmountable task, especially for those of you wanting to study abroad in an English speaking college or university.  Well, I did it - so can you.

The TOEFL ibt, or TOEFL internet based test, is not unlike other college/university entrance exams.  The course will be strategic and technique based in nature, offering the student the knowledge and confidence to excel at the test.  Most students taking the TOEFL don’t have the necessary experience in taking the test.  They don’t know it’s a time pressured test and/or simply don’t understand what the test givers are asking. Simply put, they don’t have the tools to score to the best of their ability.  To overcome this, my course supplies you with these tools.

The first class covers the 4 sections of the TOEFL in detail:  Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.  Subsequent classes will reinforce content from the first class with focused work on TOEFL practice questions. Homework will be assigned after each session which will primarily include reading from collegiate level text books, essays,  and newspapers in order to to help the student elevate their practical English skills. Since the TOEFL emphasizes the ability of the student to speak and understand the English language at a collegiate level, only English will be used throughout the course.

Students who complete my course will:

  • Have a detailed understanding of each of the 4 sections of the TOEFL ibt: Reading Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
  • Have a greater understanding and knowledge of English using actual TOEFL practice questions.
  • Increase their English Vocabulary base.
  • Gain confidence in speaking English.
  • Increase their ability to articulate clearly.
  • Gain confidence and effectiveness in writing English.
  • Learn time saving tips so they can finish the TOEFL ibt with time to spare.

One class (the Toefl speaking class) will be dedicated to just that: speaking. I have found through my years of tutoring that speaking English in front of an individual or a group of individuals is highly intimidating to most students. In this class, through conversations with one another and reading aloud from selected texts, we will focus on areas of needed improvement.

Together we will explore the TOEFL ibt and shed any doubt you may have in scoring to the best of your ability.
